My local biking site www.biketoledo.net (note: NOT biketoledo.com) is almost one year old, now. I invite all you flatlanders to check it out, if you haven't already done so. It's very strong in getting started biking, with lots of "how-to" and "where-to-find" for newbies. It also has a very large and detailed touring section. Other categories include recreational riding, commuting, utility riding and going car-free. Lots of local rides mapped out and a bunch of regional tour ideas as well.
I hope some of you will contribute to it. Meanwhile, I'll be doing the Flatlanders Tour this year for the first time - I hope to meet some of you. I lived in Fremont for a couple of years when I was a kid.

That is unacceptable. I would like to think that I would have the courage to back you up if I was there, but who knows?

I'm glad you brought up riding ettiquette.
It is important to promote proper bike riding ettiquette.
Ettiquette guidelines apply to the road as well as a trail.  (Also apply to Beavis)
Here are some ettiquette guidelines for bicyclists:
  • Obey traffic laws
  • Always wear an approved cycling helmet
  • Always ride on right side of road, with the traffic
  • Pass on the left
  • Give notice when passing
  • Bike Trail - Slow down when riding on busy section of trail
  • Move off the road when stopped
  • Always watch for traffic, from the rear and on coming
  • Do not litter
  • Warn of road hazards to other group riders
  • Groups should ride single file (although it is legal to ride two abreast)
Automobile drivers and cyclists need to respect each other for safety on the roadways
